Fake HDR

Probably most of you are already aware of some version of this, however if you aren’t maybe you will find it useful.  The photo below is about the best I was able to do with a light amount of photoshop work.

Landscapes like this can be much improved using hdr techniques, however last night it was very windy so it would have been impossible to take multiple images that would align.  So what I did was to take the raw image and set the exposure level to plus 1, 0, and minus 1 for three separate images.  I then processed these in Photomatix.  I liked the result that I got.  Especially since it required little work.  I have found this method very useful when movement in a subject makes hdr usable multiple images impossible to get.

I got curious about the boxnet widget so I made some photoshop brushes so that I would have something to offer for a download.  These were made from images taken from old newspapers.  I don’t make brushes very often, however maybe someone might find them useful.  There are ten in the set most of which I was able to get into the image below.  If you want to try them out you can download them from this link or the one on the sidebar.
